A University of Miami Medical Campus “Crime Advisory” is a report/ notice issued to the campus community regarding a crime that is considered by the institution to represent a serious or continuing threat to students and employees. It may be distributed through email, posted on this or other webpages, or distributed through other means deemed appropriate. The intent is to inform the community to aid in the prevention of similar crimes.
Public Safety Department Policy E-016 (Timely Warning) governs Medical Campus Crime Advisory issuance. This policy is restricted-access. However, a summarizing policy statement is contained within the University’s ‘Safety Matters’ annual security report as required by law.
Current Medical Campus Crime Advisories:
On the morning of April 2nd, two people who appeared to know one another had an argument near the Sylvester Support Services Building. One of them was stabbed and seriously injured. The assailant ran toward the Metrorail station. He was described by Miami police as a white Hispanic male, of slim build and medium height, with black hair, and wearing a black hat, dark pants and a blue shirt. Although this situation seems isolated and personal, we want to remind you to always be aware of your surroundings. Please report any suspicious activity to Public Safety at 305-243-6000.
