A University of Miami Medical Campus “Crime Advisory” is a report/ notice issued to the campus community regarding a crime that is considered by the institution to represent a serious or continuing threat to students and employees. It may be distributed through email, posted on this or other webpages, or distributed through other means deemed appropriate. The intent is to inform the community to aid in the prevention of similar crimes.
Public Safety Department Policy E-016 (Timely Warning) governs Medical Campus Crime Advisory issuance. This policy is restricted-access. However, a summarizing policy statement is contained within the University’s ‘Safety Matters’ annual security report as required by law.
Current Medical Campus Crime Advisories:
On the morning of August 16, 2018, the individual pictured below reportedly engaged in a series of inappropriate behaviors with medical campus employees. The incidents included exposing himself, grabbing the buttocks of a woman, and forcefully hugging another person. The incidents took place near the VA Medical Center and the area around the Civic Center Metrorail Station. No one was physically injured, but please be aware.
If you observe this individual, cross the street, walk in the opposite direction, or do whatever is necessary to distance yourself from him. Then immediately contact UM Public Safety at 305-243-6000, JHS Public Safety at 305-585-6111, VA Public Safety at 305-575-3400, or 911.
